Take the trip plannerWhat each crowd level actually means
Lowest (green): Top coaster waits under 25 minutes most of the day. Express usually unnecessary. Restaurants accept walk-ups. Best for first-timers and budget trips.
Low (light green): Top coaster waits 25-45 minutes. Express helps but optional. Reservations recommended for popular restaurants.
Moderate (yellow): Top coaster waits 45-75 minutes. Express noticeably helpful. Restaurant reservations needed for peak dinner times.
High (orange): Top coaster waits 75-100 minutes. Express recommended unless you can rope-drop hard. Reservations required for table-service.
Peak (red): Top coaster waits 100-120+ minutes through midday. Express near-mandatory. Restaurants book up 60+ days out. Plan rest days into the trip.
The single best week to visit
If you can flex dates, December 5-12 is the underrated sweet spot. Low crowds, full holiday programming (including the Hogwarts Castle holiday projection — one of the best moments in any theme park), pleasant weather, hotel rates at fall-low levels.
Runner-up windows:
- Mid-January through early February (post-holiday)
- First two weeks of May (pre-Memorial Day)
- First two weeks of November (pre-Thanksgiving)
Weeks to avoid if you can
- Dec 21 – Jan 1: Peak of the year. Wait times 100-120+ minutes. Express near-mandatory.
- Mid-March through early April: Spring break peak. Combined US school spring breaks plus Easter.
- Mid-June through mid-August: Peak summer. Hot, humid, daily storms, full school-out crowds.
- Thanksgiving week: Short but intense crowd spike.
- HHN weekend Saturdays (Aug-Nov): Daytime parks reasonable; HHN evenings packed.
- Final HHN weekend: The closing-night surge.
